mat_lilli_bass I learned about Rich through SBL like others. I decided to start using Bandcamp to better support the artists I like and this album was my first purchase. It's SO good. Favorite track: Window Seat.

jamie yugawa I heard rich from my subscription to scott’s bass lessons online. I was completely blown away by the musical and technical aspect of Rich’s playing. I have been playing bass for nearly twenty years and Rich is one of the reasons I started replaying bass. Melodic, musical, rhythmically, technical yet still feeling. One of the best Music I have heard recently. 5 stars

Jonny Trobro Sometimes, not very often though, there's an album so great that you stop listening to anything else. Abeng is one of those rare diamonds, I just can't stop listening.... Favorite track: Window Seat.

about

The music on ABENG utilizes progressive concepts in rhythm, harmony, and melody while keeping the listener (and the musicians playing the music) connected and engaged.  Drawing upon jazz-funk and jazz-rock influences ranging from Weather Report to Roy Ayers, the music is also directly influenced by a certain segment of New York based artists that Brown has worked with over the years. Artists such as Dapp Theory, Steve Coleman, Rudresh Mahanthappa, and Steve Lehman have helped to shape the sound of ABENG. It is complex music that remains dedicated to the groove, and in doing so maintains a level of accessibility that any listener can appreciate without feeling disconnected.
